The Story of Southern Islet plot
Yan lives with her husband Cheong and their two sons in a village in northern Malaysia, near the border with Thailand. When Cheong tries to catch a snake, he accidentally damages the neighbor's fence. It is the unexpected starting point for a series of mysterious events. Cheong believes he has insulted the Malay deity Datuk Gong, but Yan, who did not grow up with this folk belief, has her doubts. She would rather take the now sick Cheong to the hospital than to a shamanic healer.
