The Sheriff's Son plot
Royal Beaudry's father is a well-known sheriff who is murdered by Rutherford's gang. He is subsequently raised by Dave Dingwell, a friend of his father's. When Beaudry returns home from college, he discovers that Dingwell has been held hostage by the gang. He goes to their hideout to find out where they are holding him captive. This is how he falls in love with Beulah Rutherford.
