The Service Star plot

A homely young girl, lonely and unhappy because she is the only one of all the girls in her town not to have a soldier sweetheart, pretends to be the fiancée of a famous fighter pilot. When the kite's mother hears of the 'engagement', she accepts the girl as her future daughter-in-law. This obviously creates some difficult situations.
