The Secret of Eve plot
Hagar, a gypsy woman, is determined that her child Eve will have a chance at a good life, so she abandons her on the doorstep of the Fothergills, a religious family who raise her as their own daughter. Eve, now grown and eager for a more exciting life, falls prey to Arthur Brandon, an extravagant man of the world. Eve marries Brandon, only to discover too late that her husband is a drunkard who abuses the workers in his factory. She is touched by the nobility of Richard Blair, a young philanthropist who investigates the conditions in Brandon's factory and fights for the rights of a little girl who goes blind while working there.
