The Reason Why plot

A Russian refugee posing as Zara, niece of Francis Markrute, arrives at his house and marries Lord Tancred, a scion of English nobility. After a long series of setbacks, she makes a full confession to her supposed uncle and her husband about her origins and her young son from a previous marriage to a Russian police prefect, who was murdered by an angry mob for his cruelty.
