Lazy sound designer Jim is desperate to prove his worth and is working on a new horror film by the tyrannical but acclaimed B-movie director PW Griffin. Accused of a lack of vision and creative courage, Jim heads to the remote island where the film is being shot to create sound powerful enough to elevate the film's finale. There, creepy local legends come to light, such as that of a ghostly captain to whom young people lose their souls. As Jim becomes increasingly entangled with the bizarre locals and the place, he wonders if capturing it might cost him more than just his career.
