The Law of Men plot

Laura Dayne, an ambitious young sculptor approached by the neighboring young artist Denis Connors, has little contact with the social world and knows little of the "law of people." She is therefore not suspicious when the decadent architect Jamison Keene lures her to the Tarrytown Inn one evening with the promise of fulfilling her dream of working in a town hall. Keene had recently commissioned the artist to paint a miniature of Mildred Wade, the foolish wife of Laura's dear friend Benton Wade. Laura goes to the Tarrytown Inn and walks into the trap set for her.
