The Heart of a Painted Woman plot

Young Martha Redmond, a poor girl from a small town, leaves to pursue a singing career in New York City. She's unsuccessful as a singer, but she does find a job modeling for a prominent artist and soon becomes his mistress. When her lover leaves her to marry a wealthy man's daughter, she becomes a "fallen woman," a plaything for wealthy playboys. She meets Barrett, the son of a millionaire, and begins to wonder if she might have a future with him, but it seems he'll be just like "all the others."
