The Girl in the Checkered Coat plot

Two sisters, Mary and Fannie Graham, are forced to live with their criminal father when their kind mother dies. Mary flees, but Fannie stays with her father and is raised as a thief, changing her name to "Flash" Fan. One day, Fan and her accomplice, Jim, steal a wallet and she uses the money to buy a plaid jacket. She throws the wallet away, so if a detective detains her, he has no evidence to lock her up. Mary, who works as a shopkeeper, falls ill and is taken to her tenement where ''Flash'' Fan also lives.
