The Forgotten Step plot

An American art collector, living in France around 1870 and losing his fortune in a stock market crash, devises a plan to recover his wealth through insurance fraud, with the added consequence that hundreds of people may be killed. His plan is to put his art collection on board a ship and insure the collection well above its value. Next, he wants to place a barrel of dynamite with a clockwork, which is timed to go off when the ship is on the high seas.
