The Fool's Revenge plot
Anson, a clown, murders his wife when he discovers she is having an affair with a wealthy libertine named Randall, and subsequently spends all his time caring for his daughter Ethel and plotting revenge. Consequently, when he learns that Mendell, Randall's friend, is interested in Randall's wife, he does his best to encourage the affair. However, Mendell is also interested in Ethel and kidnaps her to seduce her. Anson learns of the kidnapping and, thinking the woman is Mrs. Randall, devises a plan to drug her and then take her to a cottage with Mendell, where Randall is informed of the affair. However, instead of taking revenge on Randall, Anson actually causes his own daughter's downfall, as she, not Mrs. Randall, is found in the cottage with Mendell.
