The Flame of Love plot
During a performance one night, the Grand Duke sees the beautiful Hai-Tang on stage and immediately decides that he must have her to himself. The Grand Duke orders Boris, the officer Hai-Tang has fallen for, to take her to his room, intending to make love to her there. Hai-Tang's brother sees this happening and injures the Grand Duke, giving him the death penalty. Hai-Tang then decides to give in to the Grand Duke's sexual temptation in exchange for her brother's freedom. The Grand Duke accepts this offer, but then learns of the love affair between Hai-Tang and his lieutenant Boris.
