Surrender plot

During World War I, French prisoner of war Sergeant Dumaine is interned near the castle of the proud Prussian nobleman Count Reichendorf. Reichendorf lives for the day when his four sons will march triumphantly into Paris. Axelle von Meirbach, the daughter of one of the sons, periodically makes a 'goodwill' visit to the maximum-security prison and gradually falls in love with Dumaine. A less pleasant turn comes when Captain Ebbing, the strict prison commander, falls in love with Axtelle.
