Karim, the only son of a wealthy diamond merchant, survives an attack by bandits, in which his father dies. All he has left is a diamond. When he tries to sell it in Bombay, he is accused of theft and arrested by the police. He is released when a rich Englishman substantiates his story. Years later, after Karim sells the diamond, he is a rich man. When he meets the American Janice Darsey, he falls for her charms and wants to marry her. Janice's aunt is against this and sends a telegram to her cousin to make sure that the marriage does not take place.
