Unlike Kurt Weill, who achieved worldwide fame for the music he composed for Bertolt Brecht's plays, composer Hanns Eisler achieved much less fame in the same occupation. His life was marked by loneliness and persecution: a convinced communist he had to flee first from the fascists in Germany and then from McCarthy's witch hunts in the United States.
