Christmas Eve is approaching and it is the day that Julian turns eleven. Normally it is the most wonderful day of the year, filled with the wonderful smell of gingerbread and tangerines, the sound of a crackling fire, the decorated Christmas tree and the flickering candlelight. But this year nothing is as usual. Julian and his family are mourning the death of his big sister and Julian has a feeling that Christmas will not happen. Then Julian meets the cheerful and Christmas-loving Hedwig and he begins to believe that the holiday will come. But there is something strange about Hedwig's house, and who is the old man who is lurking all the time?

Beautiful honest film about the interaction between people and how they deal with what touches them most deeply. The magic of the friendship that arises outside the 3D world may also open up to parents of children that there is more between heaven and earth and that children should be stimulated in their sensitivity instead of denying it. Great quote: It's going to snow tomorrow... Hovland and Gupta naturally deliver acting with the truths as children experience them. In the background a shadow of Pippi Longstocking...

Norwegian Christmas film with a heart. I was not convinced that dealing with grief would work well in a Christmas film, but the makers showed the necessary tact and sense of perspective to not make this drama too heavy and stuffy. Julian has lost his older sister during the year and his parents are still very unhappy and have to endure Christmas as an ordeal. Their house has been stripped of decorations. Julian also has a hard time and in between meets a cheerful girl who wants to be friends with him, Hedvig.
The film especially grabbed me in the last half hour, where all the emotions flare up. Or how your life becomes more colorful by turning negative thoughts into positive ones. Not only for yourself but also for your loved ones. Merry Christmas.
Unfortunately it's a Netflix movie so a physical release won't be possible.
