Shizumanu Taiyô plot
Hajime Onchi (Ken Watanabe) works for Goku Airlines. He becomes the head of the union and fights to improve the working conditions of the workers. The management is not happy with Hajime's activities and relegates him to workplaces far away from Japan. Hajime has been working in Pakistan, Iran and Kenya for ten years. The management has allowed him to return to Japan, as long as he apologizes and leaves the union. Hajime refuses this. Shiro Gyoten (Tomokazu Miura), his employee, has long since given in to the demands of the management and is climbing the hierarchy of the company. Hajime feels betrayed, but in Kenya he can do nothing but look at the sun. When he is finally allowed to return to Japan after ten years of exile, he gets a very difficult job. Then the worst air disaster in Japanese history takes place: a jumbo jet belonging to Goku crashes and hundreds of passengers are killed. Hajime must comfort and compensate the families of the victims.
