Shirley plot

Shirley Bassey was born in 1937 in Cardiff, Wales. She grew up with her seven brothers and sisters in a modest working-class family with a Nigerian father and an English mother. It soon becomes apparent that young Shirley has an exceptional singing talent. In 1953 she signs her first contract to perform as a singer in a musical. Shortly afterwards, at the age of 16, she becomes pregnant and starts working as a waitress in a bar. Yet she refuses to give up her dream of becoming a successful singer. And with success, because a few years later she has her big breakthrough. She grows into one of the greatest singers in the world. Behind the facade of the success, however, lies a lot of suffering: she catches her husband Kenneth Hume with another man.
