Shazdeh Ehtejab plot
Based on the book by Houshang Golshiri, this film takes us to the last days of Prince Ehtejab. He is one of the last remaining members of the Qajar dynasty, which ruled Iran in the 19th century but was ousted by the Pahlavi in 1925. Like the power of the Qajars, the prince's health is also on the wane: he suffers from tuberculosis and is locked up in his palace during his last days. Here he remembers with nostalgia the glory days of his ancestors, but he is also reminded of their atrocities. He is even visited by the ghost of his father and grandfather who reproach him for not continuing their traditions of despotism and brutality. In 'Prince Ehtejab', director Bahman Farmanara tells us about the tragic end of a cruel dynasty, and the guilt it leaves behind in its descendants.
