Shaka Zulu: The Citadel plot
In 1827 Katherine Farewell boarded the slave ship Defiance and sailed to Africa in search of her father Francis Farewell. Once on board, Katherine falls in love with Mungo, the ship's captain. With compassion she tries to turn him against slavery. Meanwhile, Katherine's father is in Zulu land with Shaka, the king of the Zulus. The two men have become close friends and together they fight against Shaka's arch-rival, Ngoro of the Massani. When Shaka is captured, he is sold into slavery and brought aboard the Defiance. Shaka, however, manages to free himself, he takes Katherine with him, escapes in a lifeboat and returns to the Citadel where he is told that his queen has died. Driven by his horrific experiences on the slave ship, he launches an attack on the white settlements of the Cape Colony.
