Segreti di Stato plot
Political activist Danilo Dolci (1924-1997) initiated a fictitious historical investigation focusing on the Portella della Ginestra massacre. On May 1, 1947, peasants gathered in the valley of Portella to celebrate the victory of the coalition of Socialist and Communist Parties in regional elections. Suddenly, fire was opened on the crowd, killing 11 and injuring dozens. Official reconstructions placed responsibility for the massacre solely with the gang of bandit Salvatore Giuliano. But the film's protagonist, one bandit's lawyer, thinks otherwise and launches a daring investigation.
