Sarati, le Terrible plot
Sarati the Terrible is the wealthy and ruthless owner of a cheap large house in Algiers, renting out rooms at extortionate prices to laborers working in a nearby coal mine. He is in love with his beautiful cousin Rose, but she loves Gilbert, a man he used to know who changed his own life out of love for the girl. As more and more miners are laid off due to increased mechanization, it becomes more difficult for Sarati to find tenants. Rose marries Gilbert and on the day of the wedding Sarati commits suicide.
