Przypadek Pekosinskiego plot

Pekosinski lives in Zamosc, Poland. He's about fifty, has no family and doesn't really know who he is. Everything about him is contrived: his date of birth, his name and place of birth: a concentration camp where his mother smuggled him out by pushing him through the barbed wire. Since his childhood, two superpowers have tried to seize his mind: the Catholic Church and the totalitarian state. Now he is an alcoholic who, despite the consequences of a brain haemorrhage, has the ambition to become a chess champion.
