Prophet of Evil: The Ervil LeBaron Story plot

Ervil Lebaron is the leader of a religious sect. He preaches death and destruction and has bizarre ideas. He lives in Texas with his twelve wives and an increasing number of children. Detective Dan Connors is called in to investigate the cult's corridors. When one of Ervil's wives, Rena, and a loyal follower, Michael, murder Dr. Allred, the leader of the rival cult, Dan must pursue the perpetrators. Ervil's next victim is his brother Verlon, who has left the cult. The power Ervil has over his followers is so great that it takes Dan every possible effort to convince them that Ervil is a deadly man and that the killings are futile.
