Penumbra plot
Portrait of a poor elderly couple waiting for death and filling time with the rituals of routine. Longtime fighter Adelelmo Jimenez suffers from asthma, which affects not only his lungs but also his mental toughness, but he continues to care for his wife Dolores Rodriguez. Dolores mourns her son, who was stabbed while trying to cross the Mexican-American border. The film follows Adelelmo in his forays through the forest, setting snares for game and searching for medicinal plants. His wife stays at home, does the laundry, prepares a meager meal. Their daily struggle for existence is laced with rituals, in which spirits and faith in nature play an important role. They are in fact waiting for their end.
