Omkara plot
"An Adaptation Of Shakespeare's Othello"
Omkara is the leader of a group of outsiders in the semi-disciplineless rural area around Uttar Pradesh. His brother Langda Tyagi is also his right-hand man. He is so called because of his handicap: he limps enormously. Another and prominent person in the gang is Kesu Firangi, he is the only member to have an academic degree. Omkara is head over heels in love with the beautiful Dolly, and she is in love with him too. But this love is not accepted, she must marry another. On the day of her wedding, Omkara and his gang disrupt the festivities and secretly take Dolly to their village. There, Langda's wife takes Dolly under her wing, becoming her friend and guide. But when Omkara appoints Kesu as the new leader of the youth gang, the puppets start dancing. Langda, who wanted this post herself and thus vehemently protested this designation, feels misunderstood and overlooked by his brother. In a fit of jealousy, he decides to take revenge. He tries to convince Omkara that Dolly is having an affair with Kesu behind his back.
