Olivia - Ein Kinderschicksal Bewegt die Welt plot

In the summer of '95 it is determined that the girl Olivia (Christina Uhl) has cancer, after which the doctors immediately prepare an operation and map out chemotherapy. However, her parents refuse medical treatment and flee with their daughter to Spain, where the German alternative healer Geerd Hamer (Ludwig Schütze) tries to heal the girl. The Austrian state has father and mother deprived of parental authority and then conducts a hefty media campaign. Eventually the family returns with Olivia to Austria, where the critically ill girl is treated according to the usual methods until she is declared healthy in the spring of 1996.
