Red Army soldier Nikita returns to his hometown after the civil war. He runs into Lyuba, a girl he knows from back in the day. They fall in love and get married, but Nikita feels unhappy. He leaves her and goes wandering, until he speaks to his father, who tells him about Lyuba.
