Nyfes plot
Norman Harris, an American photographer who spent years wandering in Asia, returns home in the summer of 1922. Niki, a young Greek seamstress, sails to America aboard the same ship, along with seven hundred other poor brides from Greece, Turkey, Armenia and Russia. In their suitcase is a picture of a groom they've never seen, and a wedding dress. Their unknown future fills them with fear and mistrust, and they often fall prey to despair. Norman, who is traveling in first class, is struck by the brides in third class. Niki makes the biggest impression on him and gradually they fall in love. When the SS King Alexander enters New York Harbor, hundreds of men are impatiently waiting for their brides. After one last passionate hug, Norman and Niki must make an important decision...
