Sully is nearing retirement age. While a bad knee prevents him from working properly, he secretly works for Carl and flirts with his wife. Sully's forgotten son and family return to town, leaving him with unknown family responsibilities.

The beautiful, occasionally hilarious dialogues make this very successful comedy with a dramatic undertone a wonderful viewing pleasure; pure entertainment thanks to director Benton's subtle script. And Paul Newman is in great form as the cynical and at the same time hot-blooded Sully.
The last film by top actress Jessica Tandy, who was already very ill during the recordings, but that is not noticeable in the film. Tandy died two months before the premiere.

Pleasantly rippling tragicomedy about an old man who takes stock of his existence. He tries to turn the mistakes of his past into life wisdom and restores the neglected bond with his son (and grandson). All this in a village where everyone knows everyone. Tensions sometimes rise, but when push comes to shove everyone jumps into the breach for each other.
Bruce Willis is quite a humble man. He's not even mentioned in the opening credits and settled for a tiny paycheck. He worked on this project out of passion and wanted to prove that he could handle more than just action hero roles. Nobody's Fool is a feel-good film that is too weekday for a high mark, but left me with a wide smile-on-the-face afterwards.

A film that, despite the good acting, could not fascinate me, maybe it was the theme with the cliché deadbeat dad that I disliked because there was no trace of female guilt and shame about a failed marriage, apparently that is how it goes in films with a similar theme as here (the woman completely free of responsibility and guilt and the man estranged from his son who, of course, also blames him for everything).
In this case, I couldn't care less.
