A good film about a man released from prison who visits his brother and his brother's wife. The film flows along pleasantly, and even though you know where it's going, it remains entertaining. This is partly due to the relatively raw and unadorned presentation, and also to the excellent acting, which makes the characters truly stand out.

I have no enemies / Only places where I find you now

The film opens strongly—really strongly, with the beautiful song by 22 Brides, No Enemies (1,389 plays on Spotify, as I type). Would that have happened if the film hadn't plummeted so dramatically shortly after the song? Or would all 22 have broken through then?

It's not the leads' fault; Tim Roth delivers a very strong performance, and Deborah Kara Unger is as mysterious and stunning as ever. It's a shame the rest of the cast falls short quite a bit; I found Russo particularly weak. But if the story hadn't been so weak, it might hardly have been noticeable. And then there's the lackluster ending. With the second song, which tries a little too hard but falls just as flat as No Enemies. That's the film's short summary, really.
