After his father's death, 'Rifle' Edwards roams around without a roof over his head. In a big city he manages to find shelter at the Newsboys home. He gets a job at Howard Price Dutton's newspaper 'The Globe', who also set up the Newsboys home. Dutton dies and his daughter Gwen takes over. Gwen turns out to be headstrong and faces competition from 'The Star', a newspaper bought by corrupt politician Tom Davenport. Davenport tries to persuade Perry, Gwen's boyfriend, to work for him, but he refuses. Davenport starts a brutal newspaper war and the Globe's sales plummet. Perry resigns and the Newsboys home is also in danger of collapse.
