My Brother's Keeper plot
Twin brothers Tom and Bob Bradley are dedicated teachers, but Tom becomes infected with the HIV virus. He then discovers that his immune system can be restored through a transplant of Bob's genetically identical spinal cord. Tom wants that treatment, but it's a very expensive, experimental procedure that his insurance company doesn't cover. This leads to a lawsuit. When the brothers try to get support from their family and the conservative community on Long Island as a last resort, the case comes into the open. Then the internal conflicts within the family and between the brothers also come to light. As former seminarians, they are still deeply religious and have difficulty reconciling their homosexuality with their Catholic faith. Their mother Helen denies their sexual preference, but their sister Joann is very understanding.
