A Polish couple emigrate to America. While she is working on her career, he cannot adapt and he blames her. Their marriage is on the rocks and he threatens to kill her. He is admitted to a mental institution, but then begins to behave in an exemplary manner in order to gain the trust of the medical and judicial authorities that control his fate. As soon as he is released from the institution, a nightmare begins for her.
