Moment of Truth: Caught in the Crossfire plot

Journalist Gus Payne happens to be nearby when a mafia scene is being settled. He investigates the matter further and finds evidence of the mafia connection. The FBI then contacts him. He is not allowed to publish his story. However, if he cooperates as an informant in an extortion case, he does get permission to present the entire story as a first. The case turns out differently and Gus himself is accused of extortion. The FBI is silent to the police about the agreements made with them.
