The story is set in The Holy Land in the first century. A young woman leaves her fishing village and family behind to join a radically new social movement. At the head is Jesus of Nazareth who promises changes in the world. Mary Magdalene is looking for a new way of life and an authenticity denied her by the rigid hierarchies. As the group's fame grows and more and more people are drawn to the message of Jesus, Mary's spiritual journey will take her to Jerusalem. There she is confronted with the reality of Jesus' fate and must find her own place there.
