Marana Simhasanam plot
Krishnan is a poor seasonal worker in a small village community on an island in Kerala. Because he can barely support his family, he steals a few coconuts from a large landowner. He ends up in prison, is accused of a murder committed years ago on the island and is sentenced to death. The story takes an absurd turn when the village community and politics get involved in the Krishnan case. The noose was recently abolished and the electric chair made its appearance: an American invention touted in the newspapers as the road to glorious death. With elections approaching, politicians are pushing to have the first death sentence thus carried out in their country take place on their island. Krishnan's friends want him to die as humanely as possible. But no one is pushing for his release. An honorable death, publicity for the island and international recognition are apparently more important than an innocent human life.
