Vaska, a farm boy, is walking around with a bird in a wooden cage. While on his way to another village to meet the girl he is in love with, he encounters a strange man along the way. This man is engaged in searching for meaning in life and saving birds. This curious couple decides to go on together and as they walk through beautiful landscapes, among green meadows and under steel blue skies, they have profound, philosophical conversations.
