Love and Death of Kaoru Mitarai plot

The famous writer Kaoru Mitarai gets drunk behind the wheel and hits an old woman. Her son Ryuhei, who is himself an unsuccessful writer, extorts her and demands that she write a novel for him. Kaoru is angry at first, but later finds fun in the project because it gives her renewed energy. The book becomes a huge success and the now famous Ryuhei begins an affair with editor Yuriko. The relationship with Kaoru does not get any better.
