I read a lot of criticism here that the story would be too meandering and that it lacked a climax. I had that feeling a bit too and that is strange because in fact quite a lot happened: super good brother who suddenly "gets it" and beats up his boss, another brother decides to get his money by means of robberies and eventually gets caught, another brother sees his chance to escape his life by a flashy career in football and finally little brother who runs away with a city bus.

So there is enough going on but I admit that it sometimes comes across as a bit bland. Still, I was definitely touched by the story and I found the atmosphere completely fitting. You feel how hard life is for the brothers which is why I am definitely impressed by this film.

Social film that succeeds in hanging a realistic picture of the problem of the poor in the Brazilian metropolis and that by following 5 members of one family in their actions and their sighs. This is done by means of constantly changing extremely short fragments that seem a bit confusing at first but are not so bad afterwards. Not a masterpiece, in my opinion, but still very meritorious.

Strong film!

Atmospheric and languidly shot. Characters each fragile and real. The climaxless narrative resonates fantastically with the hopeless situation of the brothers.

Each character's sub-story is well-developed, but the most important story development for me is the impending arrival of a new brother(?), who in all likelihood will also not be able to escape the hopeless perspective of his family members. The film succeeds in every way in telling me the story of São Paulo in an impressive way. Very clever!
