"Fear and evil make deadly companions."
17-year-old Alex Bennet (Eddy Redmayne) is a suspect in the lawsuit over the death of his school friend Nigel Colby (Tom Sturridge). However, the detective has no hard evidence and is therefore pressured by Alex's father, who does everything to protect his son. A forensic psychologist, Sally Rowe (Toni Collette), is assigned to investigate Alex. Once engaged, she becomes increasingly entangled in Nigel and Alex's strange world, full of riddles and secrets. She notices that despite Nigel's death, his influence on Alex is enormous.
