Le Pays du Chien Qui Chante plot

A Japanese couple settles in a small mountain village in the Jura. Toyo is a musicologist and his wife Yoshiko is a geologist and archaeologist. To the curious villagers (who have never seen a Japanese in their lives) they declare their presence by some mysterious scientific mission. Their real goal is to find a 'singing dog' they once saw on TV. They move into a room and stay true to Japanese customs: table legs are cut off and family portraits adorn the room. The French customs around the cheese fondue are also tried out, but they are difficult. Meanwhile, their search continues, but the villagers become more and more curious.
