Le Journal d'un Vieil Homme plot

Nicolas is a famous doctor who suffers from an incurable disease. He also suffers from insomnia, is unhappily married to a younger woman, fathers a teenage girl he doesn't understand and the only thing that binds him to life is the affection of his adopted daughter Katia. However, she is very melancholic and Nicolas feels powerless. He, who has devoted his life to his scientific work, realizes that he has missed the essence, something that can make life a whole. He is confronted with the big questions of life and realizes that, like Katia, he resigns himself to the emptiness of his life and the approaching death.
