Le Due Leggi plot

In a poor little village in Sardinia, which has been in drought for several months, loan sharks speculate on the poverty of villagers. To prevent the felling of a huge tree on the border between two farms, Melchiorre kills Pedru and has to flee from the police. Andria, the dead man's brother, tracks down Melchiorre and wounds him in a fight with a revolver, but Melchiorre manages to reach his village where Pedru's mother tends to his wounds. Melchiorre is full of remorse for having killed this woman's son. But then Andrea shows up again...
