Le Comte de Monte Cristo plot

Edmond Dantes has been falsely accused by some men who are jealous of his happiness. He is sentenced to life in prison and imprisoned on the island of Chateau d'If. There he gets to know a fellow prisoner, the abbot Faria, who has been declared insane. This tells him of an immense treasure that is hidden somewhere on an island. He gives Edmond the location of the island. When the abbot dies, Edmond takes the place of the corpse and is thrown into the sea in the body bag. He frees himself and swims to land. According to the clues, he finds the island and the treasure. Edmond is now terribly rich and changes his identity to the Count of Monte Cristo. He makes his appearance among high society and gains their trust. However, he has only one goal: revenge.
