La Dame en Couleurs plot

Children are locked up in a gigantic psychiatric hospital. They are not sick, but simply have no family anymore. To escape their oppression, they create a parallel universe; the basement of the institute contains a labyrinth of tunnels and an alternative society is created there, with its own rituals and enchantments. The young girl Agnès rules this underworld, which the adults seem to tolerate. But then a dying girl disappears and the rest are suspected of involvement. A war between the two worlds breaks out. The cellar is put under siege to force the children to come out - the children's republic is about to be destroyed...
