Said is a Moroccan worker who has lived in Milan, Italy for many years with his wife and three children. One day, his second wife arrives from his native country, with also three children. It is not uncommon to have two or even four wives within Arab culture, but in Europe and especially Catholic Italy it is a crime. He is being charged with bigamy. A female lawyer defends him during the trial. She highlights cultural differences, the shortcomings in the - Italian - law regarding immigrants' rights, as well as the lack of tolerance and understanding.
