Krates plot

When the dog trainer Nicolaas Makko dies of alcoholism, his young son Theodoor - Dorus for short, but called Krates because of his hunchback - is at the mercy of pawnbroker Philip Strijkman. He threatens to send him to an orphanage. Dorus therefore runs away from home and Strijkman gets hold of the family papers. Then Dorus wanders through the streets of Amsterdam and beyond...
