Komal Gandhar plot
"A Soft Note on a Sharp Scale"
Two competing theater groups within the Bengali progressive theater movement of the 1950s. One group calls itself Niriksha and is led by the proud Bhrigu. The other group, Dakshinapath, is led by Shanta and Anusuya, a newcomer to the group. When Bhrigu falls short of a player, Anusuya decides to fill in, insulting the members of her own group. With her new group, she is involved in the production of the classic Shakuntalam. She is increasingly attracted to Bhrigu and now faces two choices. There are two men and two theater companies in her life. The dichotomy is also symbolized by the Padma River, which separates India and Bangladesh, and by the difference between the hectic life in the big city and the serene tranquility of the countryside.
