In 1974, a coup d'état by right-wing Greek soldiers put an end to the autonomous Cypriot rule. At the same time, the Turkish government is preparing an invasion of the island. A fierce battle breaks out between the Greek and Turkish troops with many dead and a large influx of refugees. The conflict can only be ended by stationing a peacekeeping force in Cyprus and establishing a Greek and a Turkish zone on the island. The new borders cut through houses, villages and the capital Nicosia. The Greek Cypriot Luka (Akis Sahellariou) was ten years old during this conflict. He survived, but lost his parents. Twenty-five years later, he lives in Nicosia, which is still divided in two. For years he dreams of one day returning to his native village, which is now located in the Turkish zone of Cyprus. One day he meets a woman who regularly drives back and forth between the Greek and Turkish zones to sell things on the black market. His life changes when he accompanies her on such a journey.
